PART 3: Exploring the Level 2 Syllabus Poses with John Schumacher
With a focus on Backbends - Join us for this exciting opportunity to continue your study with John Schumacher, exploring the Level 2 syllabus poses from RIMYI. In this session, John will look in depth at two of the level 2 poses -- urdhva dhanurasana and dwi pada viparita dandasana -- as well as other poses in preparation for these backbends.
As in Parts 1 and 2 of this series, John will teach a 2 hour class focused on these poses, and then will save a half hour for questions and discussion. This workshop will lead to a deeper understanding of not just the poses, but the connections between them and the key actions that underlie them.
Come explore these Level 2 asanas with one of the world's premiere teachers in this 2 1/2 hour workshop. The workshop will be recorded and the video will be available for 90 days after the event.
This workshop is open to Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers (CIYTs), those training to become CIYTs, and other students with an advanced practice.
John Schumacher is the founder and director of Unity Woods Yoga Center, based in the metropolitan Washington D.C. area. John began studying with B.K.S. Iyengar in 1981 and is one of the few teachers in the U.S. to have been awarded an advanced teaching certificate from Mr. Iyengar. John’s clear, precise style and his engaging sense of humor have made him one of America’s leading teachers. He has taught thousands of students, trained hundreds of teachers and continues to give weekly classes and workshops on line. His teaching is directed toward guiding students to explore the many levels of their being with courage and curiosity. Register Now

Asana Clinic
Even the simplest poses reveal their complexities with repeated practice (abhyasa); and that personal growth comes from attempting the new (and perhaps scary) poses. In both cases, the study of asana is the means by which consciousness evolves (vairagya).
Send 1 or 2 poses to susan@iyengaryogasarasota.com by December 5th and we'll create a syllabus to inform and invigorate your practice.
Are there some poses where you feel stuck? Or need more practice? Or have not practiced, but you'l like to try?
Event date - December 8th 1:30 to 4PM, Online and in studio
Cost - $25.

Six Weeks of Pranayama
“The yogi's life is not measured by the number of his days but by the number of his breaths. Therefore, he follows the proper rhythmic patterns of slow deep breathing. These rhythmic patterns strengthen the respiratory system, soothe the nervous system and reduce craving. As desires and cravings diminish, the mind is set free and becomes a fit vehicle for concentration.” ― B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Yoga
This six-week series will focus on supine and seated pranayama practices. Students are welcome to arrive 30 minutes early for a self-guided asana practice to prepare the body and mind for pranayama.
Prerequisites: This is not a beginner's class. A minimum of six months of experience practicing asana with a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher is required. Contact us with questions.
Fridays - 6:00 to 7:00 pm ET *** $20 for non-studio members, Free for members
*** In-person at Iyengar Yoga Asheville and online via Zoom
